YOGA and MINDFUL MOVEMENT WORKSHOPS

My yoga and mindful movement workshops are an opportunity to explore a little further & focus on specific areas and themes. These yoga workshops will help you to deepen your awareness and understanding of body and mind. The insight you gain will inform both your yoga practice and your daily movement patterns.

Small groups mean individual attention & time to properly explore what is going on for you.

These yoga and mindful movement workshops are informative and interesting. You will learn and then feel what you learn, ensuring that you can make helpful, sustainable changes to how you move. Sharing, discussion and jolliness is encouraged.

Jo Stephens Wildyogis yoga workshops

I offer a variety of workshops…

Rest & Rebirth Workshop

  • This workshop will start with some gentle rhythmic movement; to soothe the nervous system and relax the body. There will be breath focus; so, we will listen to it, allow it to flow and move in tune with it. All of which helps to draw the attention to the present moment, where consciousness and contentment lie.
  • Moving on, we will explore some restorative poses and moments of Thai Yoga massage to further sink into restful awareness.
  • After a short break, the second half of the workshop is all about deep relaxation. Yoga nidra followed by the incredible Abi Flynn with her vocal soundscape sound healing journey…

Finding Harmony Workshop

  • This is about developing a listening presence, an understanding of what we need physically & emotionally. It is about exploring and celebrating opposing forces; about bringing a solid, earthy foundation to the light, airy and spiritual - & vica versa. Letting the masculine and feminine merge to create a oneness that is healthy and sustaining.
  • We will begin with a movement practice that grounds us. Investigating the importance of a solid foundation; a safe place upon which to build. There will be strength-work and balance practice as well as flowing yoga sequences.
  • After a short relaxation & a quality snack break, the second part of this workshop will be deeply restorative. Bringing awareness within with the magic that is yoga nidra – and then being swept away on an incredible healing sound journey with the stunning Abi Flynn…

Dharma, Choice & Wellness Workshop

This workshop is all about control and choice. It is about challenging our perception of our World and making wise decisions which can lead us towards happiness and wellness. It is about exploring the Dharma code.

  • The ancient Sanskrit texts state…
  • There are 3 types of suffering that come with time…
  • Fear about the future.
  • Lamentation about the past.
  • Confusion in the present.
  • The power of inward-looking perception conquers all 3 & lifts one into a higher state of being – a powerful state of inner freedom. It gives a person the ability to shape his or her world.
  • I LOVE this… It gives us control amidst the chaos.
  • We are constantly making choices – they just tend to be shit ones. If we can master the art of making good choices, we master BEING. This is about learning to act skilfully. This process guides the direction of our life, it creates our world…
  • Our World is what we perceive it to be.
  • We talk of people with a sunny disposition, glass half empty, glass half full. The world you see is what you think it is. Your world, your experience of it; is your construction.
  • Learn how to explore inwardly, to be in the present and to change perception… There will be waffle, breathwork, meditation, movement, yoga nidra and, of course, tea and quality snacks…

Soothing the Nervous system

Another exploration into the Nervous System. In this workshop we consider Steven Porges’ Polyvagal theory and look in greater depth at the functions of the Vagus nerve. Nervous system dysfunction is increasingly common in our modern world. It makes social engagement problematic and affects how our bodies work on every level imaginable. Our mental & physical wellness relies upon a healthy nervous system. This workshop explains how it works, what symptoms to look out for & how to EASILY do something about it... Breathwork, tapping, shaking, movement, eye movement resets and yoga nidra combine to make this workshop a must…

Finding Wellness

True wellness takes a holistic approach; our bodies are a complex web of inter-linked systems, each one affecting the other. Everything is connected. This workshop dips into these systems and looks at the key things we need to consider if we want to be physically and mentally well… We will look at the nervous system and how to bring regulation to it. Consider the importance of rest, sleep and self-soothing practices. There will be breathwork, movement, mindfulness and yoga nidra.

Exploring key postures

This workshop explores some of the key yoga postures. I have selected postures which form the backbone of our yoga practice and which give insight into other poses. We will break them down and look at what movements are required to access these poses in a comfortable and helpful way… Exploring how to move well. This workshop is about how everything connects and how to create balance; so that every part of your body does the job it was designed for. Suitable for all…

Balance

The key points we need to think about when balancing – the standing on one leg sort of balancing… are also some of the key things we need to consider if we want to bring balance and well-being to our lives as a whole… This workshop teaches you how to use the breath, vision, proprioception, interoception and foundation principals to balance better – in every sense of the term.

The Glutes

Get to know your Glutes… Where they are, what they look like and what they do… What they feel like when they are switched on.
The gluteus maximus, medius and minimus act as a base of support for the pelvis and hips. These muscles also stabilize your femur in your hip socket, rotate your femur internally and externally, and draw your leg back. All the movements that help us stand, walk and support us when we sit.

The Breath, Psoas, Core and the Diaphragm

You will explore the breath; the role it plays within your yoga practice and the health of your entire being.
Learn about the importance of the principle breathing muscle; the diaphragm. How common holding patterns in the core can restrict its movement and lead to health and well-being issues.
Learn and experience how to maintain pelvic stability and core strength whilst allowing for a wholesome flow of breath.

Isolating specific areas & developing awareness using movement. So that you feel the difference when you head is properly supported and your shoulders are able to relax.

Pelvis and Spine

How important is the pelvis? Very!
The pelvis connects the top of your body with the bottom. How it moves makes all the difference to the stuff above and below it. That’s pretty much everything.
You will learn what the pelvis looks like and how it moves, using targeted action to improve awareness. We will look at how to increase range of movement and strength and stability in the whole pelvic region.

Bending safely

There is a lot of bending and folding in yoga… But how do we do that safely? I so often see people hinging in certain points, normally the lower back and neck. Eventually this causes weakness, problems and pain. In this workshop we will explore both back bends and forward folds. How to engage the whole of the back line so that there is a nice even, strong curve. We will examine the glutes – of course but also pelvic positioning and how to create length and space so that movements are helpful… There will be twists because they rock and because they go a long way to creating the range of movement & fluidity we are after to access comfortable bending…
As always there will be time for questions, laughter and general shamoooching.
We will finish with a yoga nidra because that rocks! Come and play…. Suitable for all…
