Jo combines that special quality of being an excellent teacher and making the classes fun. She challenges us, but within limits, gives individual attention, helping where needed, explains the benefits of the movements. Each class is different with varied moves. Time flies and after a good work out the Shavasana is sublime! She is a great teacher and I love the classes.
I’ve had many yoga teachers over the years but non come close to Jo. She has a unique style of teaching. She is constantly learning new things about how our mind and bodies work and we get this information passed on to us in a way that is exciting and interesting. Our classes are fun too which for me makes all the difference. She is just brilliant.
Jo’s retreat in Spain was really special. She organised it with so much love and thought. The teaching was really inspiring and I am already using what I learned in my own classes. That said it is completely appropriate for people who are not yoga teachers and/or relatively new to yoga. Thank you dear Jo, so much.
I’ve started doing a relaxation class on Thursday evenings via zoom. Jo Stephens is an amazing teacher in this and also yoga. If anyone needs any help in this it’s a great class to go to. It definitely works for me and helps me chill down.
A combination of finding a cracking yoga teacher (you) and suddenly feeling much more in tune with life has meant that I am doing yoga more than ever before. I’m feeling stronger, calmer and very happy about it. Since your break I’ve been watching your Youtube channel lots. I’ll be very pleased to see you again on Thursday, but missing a couple of weeks has also forced me to take some responsibility for my own commitment to practice. Jo has a unique and special style of teaching. She is warm, calm, funny, friendly and welcoming, all attributes of a great teacher. Jo is “hands-on” to your individual needs, and always ensures you are doing yoga correctly, thus avoiding any injuries. I love her classes, they are fun and feed the mind, body and soul.. My husband and myself reluctantly joined a class because my son had bought us a course as a Christmas present. I really did not want to go. I have never been agile and that doesn’t improve in your 60s! What a revelation. Jo’s classes create a safe environment for you to achieve the best you can without stress. So very enjoyable and undoubtedly beneficial health-wise. Just wish I had come across her gentle yoga years ago – but it’s never too late!
Went to Jo’s workshop on breathing at Fittleworth village hall. I was quite excited about it and very curious. I can report is was brilliant. It made me think and imagine what happens inside as we breath. We were asked to visualise our breathing and for me this worked. I was thinking about how my body works internally. Somehow this made me feel a greater connection to myself and not to sound too weird I felt a love for myself, a kindness, a gentleness. What I also love about Saturday morning workshops is I feel it’s such a treat to be doing something for myself on a day when I’m often busy doing chores. Thank you Jo…

I’ve found your Zoom sessions immensely helpful during these difficult times. For me personally, the whole Covid thing came on top of several hectic years along with, looking back on it, a progressive accumulation of stress, and I found my blood pressure went up to a level that required action. Rather than medication my enlightened GP recommended meditation, so I’ve been using the techniques you’ve taught us most mornings. Result?… for the past couple of weeks I’ve had near perfect readings. So meditation rocks….OMMM!

Jo is a fantastic yoga instructor. Having never tried yoga I was very nervous when I attended my first session but she was really supportive and encouraging. I have now attended several classes and Jo always makes sure that they are different and lots of fun.

I originally saw Jo for a private session of Yoga, in which she came to my house. She carefully assessed what my body was capable of doing, as I had recently had an operation. Jo was very professional and went away with all the information. She chose specific exercises for my needs and capabilities, which were well thought out. I can thoroughly recommend Jo.
The Breath-The Core, Psoas And The Diaphragm
Three hour session on the above. First bit theoretical, how muscles work, especially the role of the TA. Then practice what learnt. Time flew as always in Jo’s classes. Felt had learnt things, practised them, had good workout and it was fun. Highly recommend Jo’s classes.
For our private beginners group of four – with the full mix of stiff old joints and over stressed lives between us and far too many opinions about what we can and can’t do! – we needed to find a very special yoga teacher who would work at our pace, but never fail to challenge and encourage us towards higher goals – as well as having seeing the funny side at appropriate and occasionally inappropriate moments. Jo has been a star in every respect and we are even getting slightly better!
Coming back to Yoga after a few years, Jo’s class has provided the perfect environment. I have learnt so much more depth to the movements and it is a lovely relaxed and fun session.
I’ve had 1:1, group and zoom sessions now with Jo and have found her kind, receptive, enthusiastic, focused and a real inspiration. My body and mind are both difficult to work with, and Jo is responsive and able to adapt and accommodate the moves so I can get something out of each session.

Jo is a wonderful yoga teacher, with years of experience but always with a thirst for learning more and passing this on to her students. Where shall I start? Jo has been and IS a true inspiration. I’m a tricky customer… given that my body is broken(!!) but when I come out of a workshop with Jo I can move, I’m calm and feel ready to take on the day. I love your classes for the care, attention and interest you bring every time. I’ve learnt so much by moving slowly and listening to my body. My posture has changed dramatically, now instead of slumping I stand tall and feel my body stack instead of fold.
Jo is a brilliant teacher, very patient and accommodating to all levels. I was amazed how quickly my flexibility improved. she is sympathetic to injuries or stiffness and will tailor her teaching to suit your needs. You can tell she really has a passion for what she does.

I have dipped in and out of yoga for some years and found Jo’s class at Pulborough Village Hall. Jo is a wonderful teacher. Her love of yoga, the breath, how the body works and what it can do are infectious. So too is the laughter and easy, caring atmosphere that she creates. No two classes are the same. Each brings new knowledge and new ways of being. It is the highlight of my week. I love it.

I attended Wild yogis Andalucia retreat it was incredible Jo was extremely helpful and supportive all the way throughout the trip, the yoga was fantastic the progressive way in which she taught a sequence worked brilliantly building strength throughout the week and most importantly we laughed a lot I’m definitely booking on to the next one 🙂
Jo is a wonderful teacher. Her classes always bring something new to learn and discover and are delivered with care and passion and, importantly, laughter. Now during lockdown her Zoom sessions are a highlight of the week and it’s fantastic to be able to “invite” her into my sitting room and to relax completely. So very glad I found Jo’s classes.
I joined Jo for one of her workshops on breathing and the core. What a wonderful way to spend three hours! Jo is a truly inspirational teacher who has a natural ability to assess people’s needs and support them in a way that helps them achieve their own goals. Jo’s yoga and positive – can do attitude is transformative! When I first started her class, I had little self belief that my body could actually stretch or be flexible at all. Fantastic class…..exactly as it is says…..mindful movement. A gentle yet focused yoga class. Jo really draws attention to how awareness of hands, fingers, feet all create mindful changes to a pose. This really helps to improve practice and quieten the mind. It’s hard to find good teachers that can bring this subtle but powerful dynamic to a class. Great for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Loved it! Thank you Jo.

I found Jo 4 months ago and what a perfect match for what I was looking for! I have several long-term conditions and post-surgical complications that had left my body very stiff and seized-up. Jo was extremely responsive to my initial enquiry and following a chat about my requirements I was totally reassured that joining a gentle class was right for me. It’s the first time I’ve ever been able to maintain my commitment to any kind of physical practice. Jo is a fantastic teacher, and supports all of us to get the most from the class regardless of our skill level. By far the best thing about Jo is her totally down-to-earth and often humorous manner but still manages to keep us all focussed and demonstrates professionalism in her own inimitable way. There is a very special quality that she brings to her teaching that always leaves me feeling uplifted and I always come away from class feeling buoyant and relaxed.
Thank you for checking in. It was definitely more challenging strength wise than I normally do but I have been trying to push out of my comfort zone more lately and I felt accomplished afterwards! It has given me a few more ideas about how to challenge myself during my normal practice and I would definitely join in again! One of the highlights of my week is doing a yoga class with Jo – she gives me the confidence and encouragement I need to exercise! I always come away feeling calm, positive and have a smile on my face.
I have been going to Jo’s yoga sessions in the local hall for a while now. She is a very sympathetic, careful teacher always taking care to tailor the yoga moves to her students ability. Sadly, these sessions ceased on lockdown but she is now running online classes and bringing her own caring sessions to all. I attend both a relaxation class and the intermediate yoga which I enjoy very much and help me to keep flexible in retirement. I highly recommend her style of teaching.
Jo created a special hand massage and relaxation class specifically for my disabilities, remained confidential and professional at all times, and gave me new tips to try myself at home.
At the age of 81 years I was persuaded to try Yoga. I felt I walked the dogs each day and was moving round pretty well, if a little stiff, after two hips replacements. Relaxing has never been my forte, so I wondered if Yoga was a little worthy and whether stretching and meditation was for me. But persuaded by my children I gave it a go and it has been quite amazing. It has given me better core strength which has immediately helped my balance. Improved my neck movement (v. important when pulling out of my drive!). And generally changed my posture and breathing. And all this is due to our yoga teacher Jo – I had expected yoga to be intense, serious and a bit boring, but Joe has made it such fun and though we do work hard she does it with much encouragement and plenty of humour. Her exceptional relaxation therapy at the end is also amazing. It has certainly made me feel much younger, so whatever age you are I can strongly recommend you give it a go.

I’ve really enjoyed Jo’s class. I felt supported through her guidance and the movements felt very nourishing for my body. Even though at first sight the practice might seem subtle, I could feel the deep work in my body and noticed a difference in terms of my general anxiety and stress levels from the beginning to the end of the class (also amazing for my laptop-er posture!). I had lost touch with yoga but coming to Jo’s class makes me want to practise more often and I have never before stayed with a teacher for this length of time. Classes and courses are fun, relaxed and rewarding. Can’t recommend Jo highly enough. I’ve always seen yoga as a bit worthy and humourless but I really enjoy yoga with Jo. I’ve tried yoga before and Jo is the best I’ve found. Her knowledge of yoga is outstanding and she is always bringing new exercises and positions to the class so it never gets boring. She’s perceptive so she knows where and when to push me and shows me what to focus on. She gives me good feedback and encouragement. She has written out for me exercises to do on my own that are tailored to me and also inspires me to actually do them! Everything she does is supportive, personable and done with good humour. My flexibility, core strength and ability to relax has most definitely improved.
Jo’s classes are relaxed and welcoming to all, each week we build on our understanding of Yoga. Its a lovely way to balance the mind and body each week.
